Alexandria Mary was born in a refugee camp in West Germany. She was a little girl of two years of age when she left the refugee camp with her mother and brother for Canada. They sailed the stormy North Atlantic and arrived in Halifax harbor in January of 1950. From Halifax, the trio travelled by rail to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) where she was reunited with her father who arrived earlier to find employment.

She was educated in the local schools and after graduation from high school she, together with two of her friends, at the tender age of seventeen, left home for the bright lights, glamour, and adventure of Toronto. There she found work and the love of her life Doug, whom she married on May 22, 1970. They had almost forty years of a loving and happy relationship until his untimely death on December 22, 2009.

Alexandria Mary became an avid reader of books at an early age. During her school years she checked out not two or three books from the Red River Road Library but a shopping bag of books. She read at least twice all of Agatha Christie’s eighty-two mystery novels. She has an extensive collection of books in her library, including the complete set of Agatha Christie’s mysteries. In addition to her collection of books, Alexandria Mary has a collection of quality designer handbags.

After Alexandria Mary and Doug retired, they moved to Thunder Bay so she could be close to her family. Doug was in favour of the move because he was a golfer and the number and close proximity of the local courses gave him an opportunity to play his favourite sport.

Alexandria Mary was predeceased by her parents and her husband Doug. She leaves behind her brothers Alex and Tommy Hardiejowski, her sister-in-law Mary Kozorys, her nieces Krystyna and Natasha and her nephew Marc and last but not least her loyal shihtzu Asta.
