Sergeant Terrence "Terry" D. Sloan, DSN 7710, was originally hired into the St. Louis Police Cadet Program on April 20, 1970. In this capacity, he worked in the following divisions of the department: the Police Academy, the Communication Division, the News & Reporting Section, the Identification Section, and the Bureau of Investigation. Sergeant Sloan received his commission on August 8, 1972, and entered the Police Academy. Upon completion of the academy, he served in the 6th, Mobile Reserve Section, 6th, 9th, Drug Enforcement Division (Detachment), 3rd, and the Mobile Reserve Section. On December 19, 1988, he was promoted to the command rank of Sergeant and went to the 5th District as a line platoon supervisor. Sergeant Sloan's other assignments were in the Mobile Reserve Section, Intelligence Division, Warrant & Fugitive Section, Vice-Narcotics Section, and finally the Vice Section. During his career, Sergeant Sloan was the recipient of 2 Department Awards of Excellence on November 19, 2001, and June 16, 2004. Sergeant Sloan also received six Chief Letters of Commendation on October 12, 1977; June 25, 1980; February 17, 1981; April 22, 1983; February 12, 1988; and August 13, 1999. All of these awards were for exceptional police work above and beyond the call of duty. Sadly, during his career, Sergeant Sloan lost his son, Officer Nicholas K. Sloan, DSN 6085, in the "Line of Duty" on January 30, 2004. Sergeant Sloan retired on September 3, 2007, after serving a total of 37.37 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Baptized into the Hope of Christ's Resurrection Friday, November 9, 2018. Beloved husband of Mary Christine "Chris" (nee Carpenter) Sloan; loving father of Kelly (Todd) Bennett, Heather (Joshua) Claspill, and the late Nicholas Sloan; proud papa of Gavin, Bobby, Payton, Barrett, Kayla, Brayden, and Henry; dear brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
