Mary was the oldest child of Daniel H. Chandler and Martha Dianna Jones. She was born on August 4, 1829 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia and died on May 25, 1902 at the home of her youngest sister, Lucy Chandler Kinton.

Her siblings were:

Elizabeth Virginia Chandler Smith Noblin (She died in Scott County, Virginia)
Lucy A. J. Chandler Kinton - 1843 - 1925

Her first marriage was to Alfred Y. Chandler on September 3, 1846. Unfortunately, he died June 29, 1847 while she was expecting their first child. Mary Alfred Y. Chandler was born November 3, 1847.

On October 11, 1855 she was married to John Puryear and they had four children.

John Puryear died in the battle of Drewry's Bluff near Petersburg on May 16, 1864.

On January 28, 1875, she was married to Samuel T. Griffin. In the 1880 Census, they were living in Red Bank, Halifax County, Virginia. They had no children. After his death, she went to live with her sister at Kinton's Fork near Oxford, NC. where she died.

Some of this information was taken from her Bible which was given to me by my Grandmother.
