He was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Berwick, Pa., the son of Serafino and Saveria (Romiti) Blasetti.
Fred served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Italy. When the war ended in Europe, he was reassigned to the Pacific theater of operation, from which he was discharged in 1945, as a technical sergeant.
Upon returning from the war, he worked in the D&H roundhouse. After working there for a few years, he moved to California, where he was employed by General Motors. After retirement he moved to Las Vegas.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Blasetti) Rubell, her husband, Mike, and their sons, Michael, Jeffrey and David; a daughter, Shirley (Blasetti) Kiefer; a son, Fred J. Blasetti Jr., his wife, Karen, and their children, Rita, and Fred Blasetti III.; a daughter, Kathleen (Blasetti) DeNoia, her husband, Ray, and their sons, Jason and Johnnie.
He is also survived by a sister, Irene Starkweather of Albany; a brother, Carmen Blasetti and his wife, Lois, of Oneonta; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Enrico Blasetti, Anna Primiani, Peter Blasetti and Mary Ferguson.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 19, 2003, at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, associate pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, N.Y. 13760.
