She was the daughter of John Joseph and Mildred Regina Megan O'Brien.
A 1957 graduate of Slippery Rock University, Peggy was employed as a teacher for the Butler School District and later, as an adoption caseworker for Catholic Charities and as a congressional staffer for the U.S. House of Representatives.
She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Well known for her volunteer work in the community, Peggy was a past president of the Mental Health Association in Butler County, past president of the Butler branch of the American Association of University Women, and a past chairman of the Slippery Rock University Council of Trustees.
She also served on the Slippery Rock University Foundation Board and its investment committee.
She is survived by two daughters, Anne Hennon of Grove City, and Ellen DeMucci of St Louis, Mo.; three brothers, Robert "Bob" O'Brien of Butler, John J. O'Brien Jr. of Michigan City, Ind., and Larry O'Brien and his wife, Patty, of Eugene, Ore.; one grandson, Luke Samuel Hennon of Grove City; two nephews, Patrick O'Brien and his wife, Jennifer, of Seattle, Wash., and Timothy O'Brien of Eugene, Ore.; and three beloved cats, Marggy Mae, Bibby and Bigger.
She was also close to the Wilson Tirk family of Butler.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Hector A. DeMucci, who passed away July 29, 2002.
Friends will be received in Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery.
