Ruth N. Pehling, 91, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, November 13th at Acres of Indiana following an extended illness.

Ruth was born on February 11, 1927 in Lakeville, IN, to the late James and Naoma (Humbarger) Walters. On May 3, 1947 in North Liberty, IN, she married Gene A. Pehling, who preceded her in death on November 23, 2006. Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy G. Reed, on November 9, 2018 and her son, Kent A. Pehling in 1971, sisters, Eva Donathen, Freda Richards and Alma Woolley, and brothers, Luther, Forrest, Paul, Gary, John, and Harvey Walters.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Keith P. (Rita) Pehling of Richmond, IL, Karl D. Pehling of South Bend, and Kraig S. Pehling of South Bend, and her son-in-law, Dave Reed of Lakeville, along with eight loving grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and her sister, Doris Holdeman of South Carolina. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and numerous friends whom she made during her life journey.

She was a great homemaker, loved being with her family, sewing, geneology, cooking, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, camping and traveling with her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN, 46545 or The Salvation Army, 540 Carroll Street, South Bend, IN, 46601.

Visitation will take place on Friday, November 16th, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel”, located at 23421 State Road 23/ West Ireland Road, South Bend. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 17th at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Lyn Sumpter officiating. Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend.
