Born on September 7, 1948 in Monongahela, PA, to Adrian and Jessica Thomson. She graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. While at Duquesne, she met Joseph P. Matoney Jr. They married on June 7, 1969. They were married 38 years and had three children.
Lynn was a dedicated research aide at the University of Rhode Island's College of Pharmacy for 28 years. Her work helped to develop drugs for the treatment of cancer, heart disease and other health problems. Health issues and the need to care for aging parents forced her to retire.
Despite her own poor health, Lynn dedicated her life to helping others. She was a perfectionist who took great pride in everything she did in life, big or small.
Lynn served as a Girl Scout leader, President of a local chapter of PEO, an organization that raises money for scholarships for women. She served for years as President of the Triangle Club for URI faculty wives and was a Eucharistic Minister at her local parish. Lynn was a member of a dinner club, book club and gardening club. A master gardener, she had an especially gifted green thumb for taking care of orchids and African violets.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Joe Matoney, three children - Kristen Ginsburg, Jennifer Matoney, Dan Matoney, mother Jessica Thomson, brother John Thomson, and granddaughters Eden and Eliana Ginsburg.
