EVELYN SELF HOLCOMB, 95, died April 27, 2007. Born in Marks, Mississippi, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Sallie King and Peyton Marion Burford Self. She graduated from The Hutchinson School in Memphis and attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated from the University of Mississippi. She married Paschal (Pat) David Holcomb, Jr. in 1935. A member of First United Methodist Church and the Eleanor Dye Sunday School Class, Evelyn served on the Official Board of the Church and as an active member of the Women of the Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former Trustee of Mississippi Methodist Senior Services and a former Director of Flowers Manor and was instrumental in its founding. She is survived by two children, P. David Holcomb III and his wife, Margaret, and Sally Holcomb Surface and her husband, Frank, of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Rachel and Paschal Holcomb of Clarksdale and Frank, David and John Surface of Jacksonville, and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in Oakridge Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29 with Dr. Billy Ray Stonestreet of First United Methodist officiating. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of Arrangements. Family and friends are invited to 172 Westover Drive following the ceremony.
