Lela was born on October 26, 1920 in Joplin to Lewis and Beulah McAfee. She was the oldest of six children and had lived most of her life in the Joplin area.
On July 5, 1947 she married Roy L. Kirk. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1980.
Lela served in the U.S. Air Force PFC during World War II, was a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #534 order of the Lady Bugs, a member of the Eastern Stars Chapter #95 and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Joplin. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and the Cardinals baseball team.
Survivors include two daughters, Vicki Ferrier and husband, John, and Nancy Raines and husband, Joe, both of Joplin; a sister, Juanita Coach of Baxter Springs, Kansas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. One daughter, Yvonna Rickner of Bixby, Oklahoma preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24 at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. John Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary.
