**WORK IN PROGRESS**∼Mary Jean Hayes, age 86 of Mannington, WV having resided with her grandson Eric and Amber Burton, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center suddenly from a heart attack. She was born March 19, 1935 to the late Martin and Alma Mayfield.
She is survived by one son, Daniel (Joy) Hayes of Florida, and 7 daughters, Carolyn (Greg) Hayes of Mannington, Cindy (Donnie) Richmond of Mannington, Alma (Bub) Burton of Mannington, Nancy (Tom) Milas of Kentucky, Darlene (JR) Mitchell of Metz, Beverly Decker of Fairmont, and Patricia Ornduff of Metz; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; as well as Jeanette Hayes who was like a sister to her.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Melvin "Spankie" Hayes who died October 30, 1986; one daughter, Susan Hayes; one granddaughter, Tracy Burton; a brother, Harry Mayfield; and one sister, Martha Burge.
Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed playing cards, watching old western television shows, working puzzle boxes and in her garden. She loved being a wife, a mother and a grandmother!
Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home in Mannington on Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 from 3-6:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 9th, 2022 in the funeral home beginning at 11:00am with Evangelist Earl P. Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Whetstone Cemetery.
