An end was brought to a long and useful life just before 11 o'clock last Friday morning when Mrs. James Gallagher, 79 [sic] years old, passed away at her home on East Washington street. She had been in failing health for the past two years and had been bedfast for about six months. Old age was the chief cause of her demise, with the intense heat of last weekend as a contributing factor.

A woman of fine Christian character, Mrs. Gallagher leaves many warm friends who deeply mourn her passing.

She was a lifelong resident of West Chicago, having been born here Aug. 16, 1854, and with the exception of a short period spent in Aurora, lived here all her life. In Young womanhood she was married to James Gallagher, a C. & N. W. Ry. employe [sic, recte employee], who died in the year 1897 [sic, recte 1907]. There were no children.

Of immediate relatives surviving her Mrs. Gallagher leaves four sisters, Mrs. Frank Kelly, Mrs. John Elliott, Miss Nell Carey, and Miss Susan Carey, and three brothers, M. M., E. P., and John J. Carey.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Monday morning with Rev. Joseph Connelly officiating and interment was made in Calvary cemetery.

The 1900 U.S. Federal Census has August 1856 as date of birth. Illinois death records have August 16, 1853, as date of birth.

Note that the obituary states that Bridget's husband James died in 1897, yet he appears as her husband in the 1900 U.S. Federal Census.
