THOMAS M. CANTERBURY
Thomas M. Canterbury, 88, of Pensacola, died Tuesday. February 20, 2001 in a local hospital. He was born in Pioneer, Louisiana, reared in Mississippi and moved to Pensacola in 1940 after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was one of the last Marines to serve in Haiti prior to World War II. He retired from NAS Pensacola in 1967, where he was an aircraft maintenance supervisor. After retiring from Naval Civil Service he farmed and sold real estate.
He was a member of Escambia Masonic Lodge No. 15 F & AM, for over 55 years. He was a founder of the Civil Airs Ballroom Dance Club and active in other area dance clubs.
Mr. Canterbury is survived by his wife: Lorna Browning Canterbury; children: Barbara Inman (Charlie) of Panama City, FL, Patricia Parkinson (Robert) of Hollywood, MD; three grandsons: Thomas Inman of Houston, TX, Scott Parkinson of Baltimore, MD, Bruce Parkinson of New Jersey; three great-grandsons; he is also survived by three sisters: Mary Hoilingsworth, Gwen Asbill, and Bertha Jeffries; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3pm, Friday, February 23, 2001 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Dr. Ric Butler officiating.
Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Charles Inman, Robert Parkinson, Thomas Inman, Scott Parkinson, Bruce Parkinson and Mike Jeffries.
Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Dicks, Michael Dicks, Kramer La Cour, Richard Bartleson and Lamar Brock.
Masonic services will be held at the graveside.
The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm, Thursday.
