Alonna Jean Howell, age 91, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018.
Mrs. Howell was born on May 11, 1926, in Wauseon, OH, daughter of the late Alonzo Croninger and Anna Bender Croninger. She was raised on the family farm in the farm country of northwest Ohio and she was very proud of that heritage.  She began her education in a one room school serving grades one through six.
"Miss Lonnie" was the widow of Dr. Harvey Howell. They practiced medicine together for over forty years. He was the doctor and she was the office manager and registered nurse. They met at The Ohio State University in 1946, when she was finishing her program to be a Registered Nurse and he was completing his residency in surgery. They married in 1948 and began their medical practice in Cartersville, GA. She adapted to the south very quickly, but never lost her love for The Ohio State University and their football team. She was an accomplished golfer and amateur photographer and her photos were published in the book, Historic Bartow County, published by Etowah Valley Historical Society in 1981.  She and a friend developed a slide show of her wildflower photographs that was a very popular program with many of the civic and social groups in the community.  She was a lover of classical music and held season tickets to the Atlanta Metropolitan Opera for years. She was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves. Miss Lonnie was an active member of the Etowah Valley Historical Society and Sam Jones United Methodist Church. She also was a past President of the Cartersville Service League.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, Dr. Harvey Howell; a son, Dr. Samuel Monroe Howell, III.
Survivors include her sons, William Harvey (Sandy) Howell, Jr. and Judge Shepherd Lee (Sarah)Howell; daughter-in-law, Martha Perrine (Luis Jordan); grandchildren, Phillip Howell, Penn Howell and Clay Howell, Anne (Chris) Keller, Rebecca (Jonathan) Alford and David Howell, Laura (Sean) Dowd and Sawyer (Sarah) Howell; great-grandchildren, Grayson Howell, Riley Alford, Austin Keller, Asher Alford, Sarah Dowd and Anna Dowd; several nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service was conducted at eleven o'clock the morning on Wednesday, the 25th of April, 2018 in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Lobello officiating.
Friends were invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock the evening until eight on Tuesday, the 24th of April, 2018 at Owen Funeral Home.
