Paula Elaine (Rourke) Smith, 65, formerly of Richmond, IN, and had been residing in Lafayette, passed away at her home in Lafayette, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.
She was born in Richmond, IN on March 20, 1953, the daughter of the late Bernard “Pete” and Constance (Bailey) Rourke. Paula was raised in Richmond, graduating from Richmond High School in 1971. She attended Ball State University.
Paula formerly worked as a para-professional in Special Education for the Richmond Community Schools for over 20 years. She later worked as a cashier for the Kroger Store in Richmond.
Paula was a former member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Richmond and served on the Parish Pastoral Council for the Holy Family Catholic Church. She was presently a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette. While living in Richmond, Paula served as a 4-H leader for the Tail Waggers for 15 years. She was an avid sports fan of Richmond High School and Purdue University sports, specifically mens basketball and football.
Paula married Robert H. Smith on June 30, 1973 in Richmond, IN. She leaves behind her husband; two daughters; three sisters; two brothers; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons, Alex and Quentin McMullen.
A funeral mass will be held for Paula at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 612 Wabash Avenue, Lafayette on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Father Dominic Young officiating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Lafayette.
