"Dixie" Martinson died peacefully at her home in Mission Hills on April 27, 2007 at age 92. Born in Brookhaven, Mississippi on February 13, 1915, Dixie graduated from Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri and married Glenn Martinson from Neodesha, Kansas, moving to San Diego in 1941. Her husband died of cancer in 1953. Dixie has three sons, Fr. Jerry and Fr. Barry (Jesuit missionary priests) and Glenn (wife Nina Marie); three grandchildren, Natalie (husband Kevin Mc Namee), Nicholas and Michael; and one great-granddaughter Jenna. Dixie is also survived by one brother, Willie, and three sisters, Julia, Frieda and Catherine. In addition to being a loving mother and accomplished homemaker, Dixie was secretary at St. Vincent's School for over 25 years. There she was known for her wisdom and dedication, patience and kindness. To her family and friends, former students, parishioners and Bridge players to all who knew and loved her Dixie will be greatly missed. The Rosary will be at Merkley-Mitchell Mortuary on Wednesday, May 2nd, at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Thursday, May 3rd, at 9 a.m., followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
