Billy Carroll “Bill” Hearod, Sr. 72 of McAlester died Wednesday November 28, 2018 in McAlester.
The family will greet friends 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Life Church officiated by Rev. Terren Anderson and Rev. Keith Stanford. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery with honors provided by the McAlester Police Department Honors Team.
Pallbearers will be: Neil Ketchum, Billy Ketchum, Danny Ketchum, David Bratcher, Joel Price and Troy Price.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Gary Wansick, Lloyd London, Sr., Dale Nave, Simp McClendon, Chuck Courts, Don Hass, Joe Clagg, Allen Nixon, Willie Faries and Don Trousell.
Bill was born on March 24, 1946 to Harold and Rachel Lee (Edmonds) Hearod in Canadian. He graduated from Crowder High School in 1964 and attended Eastern Oklahoma State College. Bill married Carolyn Sue Price July 17, 1965 in McAlester.
He worked for the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and the Rubber Company before joining the City of McAlester Police Department in 1971. He worked as the Chief of McAlester Lake Patrol from 1974 to 1985 and then returned to the McAlester Police Department retiring in 1991. He owned and operated Hearod’s Bait Shop in North Town from 1991 through 2000.
Bill was a life long cattle rancher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Bill liked to bale hay with his brother Harold and enjoyed mowing the lawn.
He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch OU Sooners, OKC Thunder, and Texas Rangers ball games. Bill especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Bill was a member of Life Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Ketchum.
