Mary (Ann) Reichlin Grant passed away at age 83 Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at the family home in Nezperce after a three-year battle with cancer. Ann was born March 11, 1935, in Cottonwood. She was a loving wife and mother of 10 children, 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ann attended St. Gertrude's boarding school for first and second grade; she attended third through eighth grade at Timber School in her hometown of Keuterville. Ann then attended St. Gertrude's Academy, and after graduation she attended college at Kinman Business University in Spokane, graduating with a business degree in 1954.

She met Vergial L. Grant Jr. while living and working in Cottonwood. Vergial and Ann were married Nov. 7, 1959, and have been devoted to one another since. As the mother of 10 children, Ann was always supportive, dedicated and richly involved in everything in which her children participated. Ann lived life with great faith, wit, humility and humor, and was a compassionate, warm-hearted presence to the many fortunate enough to be acquainted with her. She particularly enjoyed visiting with family and friends, reading, cooking, playing cards, board games, snowmobiling and traveling.

Ann marveled that she and Vergial were able to travel to Italy, Switzerland, Austria, France, England, Belgium and, of course, many trips to various United States including Hawaii, Virginia, California and numerous trips to visit their children in order to catch an event in which the grandchildren and great-grandchildren may participate. A good joke would make Ann laugh uncontrollably. She wore "rose-colored glasses" and somehow would find a silver lining to even the most difficult times and events. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and volunteered whenever possible.

The Grant children and their friends and family will attest that everyone was welcome at the Grant family home and nobody ever went hungry whether they were stopping by or spending time with the family. With her seemingly endless energy, Ann would always be zipping around the house and would whip up something delicious to feed anyone who visited.

Ann held several positions outside the home, including serving as secretary for Martzen Kuther Insurance Agency, driving grain truck for Bob & Lois Puckett, a local newspaper route, Lewis County Welfare Director, cooking at both the Nezperce Café and the Clover Club and driving school bus. She "loved" children and especially enjoyed driving bus and engaging the children as they started and ended their school day reminding them when they forgot their homework, coat, glasses or the like. Ann was also the only bus driver in Nezperce School District history to be awarded Bus Driver of the Year for the state of Idaho, which she earned in 2015 at age 80. Ann began playing poker at the encouragement of Vergial when they decided to take on traveling poker tables. She found that she enjoyed the activity and was a very good poker player engaging in vibrant conversation with companion poker players.

We all loved her very much and will miss her presence in our daily lives.

Ann was preceded in death by her son, *Rodney; her parents, Agnes and Frank Reichlin; sister Hildi Miller and brother-in-law Cliff Miller; brothers David Reichlin and Ambrose Reichlin; brother-in-law Lou Wallace; sisters-in-law Joyce Bieker and Vicky Grant; and in-laws Vergial Grant Sr. and Hazel Doggett Grant.

Funeral services will be held Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nezperce with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral Mass at 11 a.m. and lunch at 12:30 p.m. Uhlorn Funeral Home of Cottonwood will oversee the arrangements.

Donations are encouraged to be made to the Nezperce ambulance or your local food shelter.
