Fred J. Caligiuri, 100, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018, in Charlotte, NC.

He was born in Endeavor, PA on October 22, 1918, the son of Forton and Bertha (Gertch) Caligiuri.

Fred left his home in West Hickory, PA at the age of 18 to travel to Florida to pursue a dream of playing professional baseball. He rose through minor league baseball to play in the major league for the Philadelphia Athletics, only to have his career interrupted to serve in World War II. Fred served in England and later the Philippines until the war ended.

He then returned home to work for his brother-in-law at the Ford Garage in Knox, PA. Fred later moved to Rimersburg when he got the opportunity to purchase the Ford Garage in Rimersburg. He sold his business and retired from work at the garage in 1980. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and following all of the local sports teams.

He is survived by his son, Fred J. Caligiuri, Jr. and wife, Tonia of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter, Talia Fann and husband, Alan, of Charlotte, NC; great-grandson, Lucas, of Charlotte, NC; and sisters, Viola Bowser, of Jacksonville, FL, and Mary Remington, of Charlotte, MI.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 73 years, Anne; and sisters, Pauline Norton and Evelyn Murphy.

Family and friends will be received from 11 AM until the time of funeral services at 1 PM on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 758 Main St., Rimersburg, with Pastor John F. Bargar officiating.

Burial will be in Knox Union Cemetery and there will not be a graveside service.
