Helen G. Kimball, 93, of Marengo, passed away, Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at her residence. She was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Marengo, the daughter of Robert and Sadie Holmes.

Helen and her late husband, Dan Kimball, were in business in Marengo for over 50 years, having owned a grocery store, gas station, restaurant and other businesses. Helen also worked part-time in the post office in Marengo.

She enjoyed baking, knitting and gardening into her early '90s. She loved to share her homemade baked bread, her knit creations and her fresh garden vegetables with others.

She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marengo.

She is survived by three sons, Gordon "Gordy" Grage, Marengo; Dr. Glenn (Dianne) Grage, Lake Namakagon, Cable; and Dennis (Barbara) Grage, Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dan in 1987; a daughter, Helen Browning; five brothers, Robert Holmes, Delbert Holmes, Fred Holmes, William Page, and Ray Holmes; nine sisters, Ethel Farley, Esther Spencer, Mabel Bay, Ellen Wiegan, Josephine Nuggent, Ella Utto, Dorothy Sheahan, Sadie Davitz and Faye Sarazin; and two grandsons, Danny and Richard Grage.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marengo with Vicar Scott Holoubek officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Inurnment will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ashland at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marengo.
