Vernon O. Lakey Born, January 6, 1922, in Brookeland, Texas to Ellen and C. .L Lakey. Vernon served in WWII as a tail gunner on a B-17. Where, he flew bombing missions over Germany until the end of the war. Vernon was also a Korean War vet where he served his country in 1950-1952. Married to Marilyn Miller on January 21, 1950 for over 66 years to this union they had Three children: Michael (deceased), Suzanne Gulnac and husband Mark; Laura Sellman and husband Milton. Two grandchildren, Jessica Wolnek, and husband David; Lee Sellman, and wife Danielle. Three great-grand children, Madison, Gavin, and Kaiden Sellman. Sister-in-law, Virginia Mills. Vernon was a long time charter member of Pine Drive Baptist Church, of Dickinson Texas where he served as treasurer. An ordained minister, and taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Pasadena, Texas. Until poor health, Vernon was also an active member of South Main Baptist Church of Pasadena Texas. Vernon retired from State Farm Insurance Company after serving as a proud agent for over 25 years, he begin to volunteer at Armand Bayou. He also was involved with The Host Program at Young Elementary School for many years. Vernon and Marilyn loved to travel. One of their favorite places was Colorado in the summer, but his favorite home away from home was their place in the Hill Country, Wimberley. Vernon was a kind, and gentle man who is going to be greatly missed. The Family would like to thank Colonial Oaks for their very compassionate care. Also a big thank you to Hallmark Hospice, especially Gina, Mary Beth, and Babs, whose loving care made Vernon's last days comfortable.
