James Franklin Pethtel

James Franklin Pethtel, 82, of Glover’s Gap Community went to be with the Lord December 2, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born February 13, 1936 in Glover’s Gap, a son of the late James L. and Fannie M. Brumagge Pethtel.

He was a retired coal miner, having last worked at the Loveridge Mine, and was a member of the UMWA. He had previously worked for the Department of Highways. He loved his family and was an avid supporter of the FFA when his kids were in school. He also loved to farm and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a longtime member of the Glover’s Gap Methodist Church until its closing.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Vivian M. Sigley Pethtel; 4 children: Jeff (Michelle) Pethtel, Metz, Amy (Lee) Huff, Farmington, John (Kim) Pethtel, Bunners Ridge, and Diana Snodgrass and partner Jason Batson, Curtisville; 7 grandchildren: Marissa, Tyler, Morgan, Nathan, Lucas, Madison, Piper; his dog, Buddy; many special nieces and nephews including Ronnie Talkington (who was a great help to him through the years) and Ann Neville; his extended family, the Merrills of Glovers Gap; and a nephew who was raised as a brother: Donnie Pethtel of Fairview.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bryan Snodgrass, and 7 siblings. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital for their kindness and great care, especially his nurses: Katie, Ashlee, Tori, and Lexi.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, 3171 Husky Highway, Farmington, on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the WV National Cemetery at Pruntytown with full military graveside honors rendered by Marion County Veterans Council.
