Mr. Jack M. Alvanas, 88, of Norwell died Sunday, November 20, 2005 in his home after a short illness. The son of the late Manuel and Mary ( Bettencourt ) Alvanas, he was born in Portsmouth RI on October 21, 1917. He was raised and educated in Portsmouth RI and lived in Somerville before moving to Norwell in 1947. Mr. Alvanas served in the Army during WWII. He was a retired Welder for Boston Naval Shipyard. He was an avid gardener and loved the ocean, fishing and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia V. (King) Alvanas, 1 son, Robert K. Alvanas of Norwell, 1 daughter, Nancy G. Carey of Marshfield and 4 grandchildren, Robert Alvanas, Lisa Keenan, Douglas Lane and Michael Lane. He was the brother of the late Tony, John, Manuel, Joseph, Danny, Emily and Mary.
