Edith attended Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada Flintridge, California and was graduated from Long Beach Poly High School in 1950, prior to attending Long Beach City College. She met her future husband, Robert Daley, in 1952 when mutual friends invited them on a St. Barnabas youth group weekend sailboat trip to Catalina Island. It was a trip that would last a lifetime.
In 1955, Bob and Edith were married at St. Barnabas church in Long Beach and Bob entered the Air Force. Edith loved her life as the wife of an Air Force pilot. Their travels took them to many bases around the United States and culminated in Bob’s eventual retirement from Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. In 30 years of Air Force life they raised eight children while moving households 19 times. Edith made every house a home for her husband and growing family. She embraced the cultures and customs of each new community and encouraged her kids to do the same.
Upon Bob’s retirement, they returned home to Long Beach where they lived within a mile of their childhood homes for the next 32 years. Edith loved reconnecting with friends and family. She was an active member of Las Hermanas Auxiliary of Assistance League of Long Beach and the Long Beach Petroleum Club where she once served as Women’s Chair. Edith’s greatest love was for her family. Her interests included life-long learning, art, museums, travel, culture, politics, cooking and shopping. She was guided in life by her strong Catholic faith and was a friend to all God’s creatures. She offered a warm welcome and a beautiful smile and there was always a soft bed and an extra place at the table. All who knew her will remember her generosity, compassion, kindness and sense of humor.
Edith died peacefully in her home after a short illness. She was surrounded by her loving family, who cherished her and will miss her dearly.
Edith is survived by her husband, Robert Daley, and her children: Monica, Dianne, Ellie, Mary, Susan, Katie, Robert, Jr., and Amy; her grandchildren: Erin, Whitney, Katie, Jake, Ryan, Zane, Van, Miranda, Robert III, and Aliyah; her honorary grandchildren: Kadeem and Gary; her daughter- and sons-in-law, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements under the care of All Souls Mortuary, Long Beach, CA.
