Martha Frances Haynes Cullen, widow of Frank Haywood Cullen (1921-2005), passed away November 28, 2018, in Alexandria, Virginia. She was born in Georgetown, Kentucky, June 24, 1925 to Warner Edwin Haynes, Sr. (1895-1977) and Frances Wright Wood (1893-1973). She lived in Georgetown until she moved to Eminence Kentucky with her sister, Katherine Wood Haynes Troth (1921-2006), while Katherine taught high school. The Haynes girls joined their aunt, Clara E. Wood Stivers, in Chevy Chase Maryland, where Martha was graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (1942). She attended George Washington University, graduating in 1947 with a B.S. in Political Science, and a Letter for Student Choir Director. She married Frank Haywood Cullen December 21, 1947. They lived in Arlington, Virginia, Princeton, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and Naples, Florida. While in Detroit, she worked at Wayne State University Psychiatry Department, and also became a part of the Arts to the Schools, Detroit Institute of Arts for several years. She enjoyed the experience so much, that she and developed her own "Arts to the Schools for Collier County" in Florida, and took her program to the fifth graders of Collier County for about 10 years. Also while in Naples, she became involved with the Chi Omega Alumnae Association, and was elected President of the Florida Chapter, and received her 75-year certificate (George Washington University). She belonged to the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, The Swedish Colonial Society, and the International Society of Shropshires. Martha is predeceased by her Father and Mother, and her brother, Warner Edwin Haynes, Jr. (1923-1944), who are buried in Georgetown Cemetery, as are her grandparents, Clarence Elmore Wood (1866-1939) and Katherine Shropshire Smith Wood (1867-1938) and great-grandparents, William G. Wood (1819-1981 and Ellen Wheat Wood (1834-1912). Martha wanted very much to be buried with her Family. Also pre-deceasing Martha were her two sisters, Katherine Wood Haynes Troth (John) (1921-2006) and Susan Oden Haynes Harper Denny (William Risque Harper; James Edward Denny) (1933-1993), both buried in Rockville, Maryland Martha is survived by her son, Frank Haywood Cullen, Jr. (Elizabeth), and her daughters, Katherine Ann Cullen King (Richard) and Elizabeth Haynes Cullen Espinosa, her six grandchildren, Peter and Julia King, Ralph (Alycia), Martha (Stefano Fani) and Sarah Cullen, and David (Victoria) Espinosa, and 5 great grandchildren, Saharra Espinosa, Everett Cullen, Giulio Fani, Wesley Cullen, and Lisbet Fani. Martha also has many nieces, nephews, and their progeny who will miss her. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00pm at Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, Kentucky.
