Obituary: Los Angeles Times, 12/16/2018∼Patricia Marshall, a former actress and singer who was married to two-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter Larry Gelbart, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at her home in Westwood, California, a family spokesperson said. She was 94.
Born Marriam Patricia Murphy, a native of Minneapolis, Marshall starred in the MGM musical Good News (1947) alongside June Allyson and Peter Lawford and appeared in the original Broadway productions of The Pajama Game and Mr. Wonderful in the 1950s.
She later was one of the house singers on Steve Allen's The Tonight Show.
She was married to Gelbart, her second husband, from 1956 until his death in September 2009 at age 81.
Gelbart wrote for Sid Caesar on TV's Caesar's Hour, received his Oscar nominations for his work on Oh, God! (1977) and Tootsie (1982) and developed M*A*S*H for television; for the fabled CBS series, he won one Emmy and was nominated six times. (Marshall appeared as a nurse in a poker game on a 1975 episode.)
Survivors include her children (from her former husband Daniel Markowitz) Gary Markowitz Gelbart and Paul Markowitz Gelbart, and a daughter Cathy Gail Markowitz Gelbart (who preceded her in death -August 4, 1948-October 10, 1998), and also survived by Becky Gelbart and Adam Gelbart (from 2nd husband Larry Gelbart), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
