Maria "Mika" Maples

Manitowoc - Maria "Mika" Maples, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at her residence.

Mika was born on January 18, 1932 in Munich, Germany to the late Engelbert and Anna (Schillinger) Einkammerer. She received her training as a hairdresser in Munich. On June 19, 1953, Mika married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Maples in Munich, and came later that year to the United States and made Manitowoc their home. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2012. Mika took pride in being a hairdresser and loved her customers. She spent her free time with her husband at their cottage on Lake Emily in Florence. Mika was known for her exceptional cooking. Mika was very proud of and loved her daughters and their families very much. She also remained close to her family in Germany.

Survivors include Mika's three daughters, Linda (Roland) Chaloupka, Port Washington; Claudette (Jerry) Waak, Green Bay; and Sandra (Rich Mikus) Maples, Madison; seven grandchildren, Tracy Chaloupka, St. Paul, MN; Andrew (Amanda) Chaloupka, Madison, AL; Kyle Waak, Chicago, IL; Michael Waak, Trondheim, Norway; Peter (Megan) Mikus, Irvine, CA; Alex Mikus and Emily Mikus, both of Madison; two great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emma Chaloupka, Madison, AL; also other relatives and friends in both the United States and Germany. At a young age, Mika had lost her parents, Engelbert and Anna Einkammerer, as the result of World War II in Germany. She was further preceded in death by her two sisters who she looked up to and helped take care of her, Anneliese and Franzis; and her brothers, Franz, Engelbert, and Maximilian; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Lila Maples.

A Life Celebration Social for relatives and friends will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of Mika's cremated remains to be at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Mika's name.
