Mildred Lena Bader Persons died Thursday, December 20, 2018 at her home at Summit Senior Living Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her family at her side, succumbing to old age, she was 94 years old. Mildred was born May 2, 1924, in Keenesburg (Weld County), Colorado to Aloys Otto and Nellie Ann (Neiman) Bader. As a youth she grew up in Longmont, Colorado, attending public schools and working at the Longmont creamery and as farm hand picking berries for local farmers. She later found work as a telephone switchboard operator. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1942. Mildred and Dr. Rev. William Richard Persons married on July 18, 1943, at Niwot, Colorado. Together they raised their family of 5 children.

Rev. Persons was a Methodist minister serving in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming and preceded her in death in 1994. As a "pastor's wife," Mildred filled many of the unspoken needs and demands of the ministry, quietly touching and supporting the lives of others in each of the congregations and communities where they served. After her husband developed Alzheimer's disease and retired, she became a librarian technician for the City of Englewood, Colorado. Mildred was a voracious reader, loved to play bridge, and enjoyed getting outdoors so she could practice her nature photography. She was a masterful cook, a skilled potter, seamstress and gardener; raising hybrid Iris and Orchids. Mildred was a member of several service organizations including P.E.O.

She faced the toughest challenges of her life with strength and dignity. Caring for her husband as he fell to Alzheimer's; supporting her son Bill as he battled terminal cancer; and losing her daughter Peggy and son-in-law Gary. Yet, her toughest challenge was losing her independence and mobility which led her to her last home at Summit Senior Living. There she continued to strive for a high-quality life as she waited to rejoin her family and the many old friends who preceded her.

Survivors include two daughters; Diana L. Persons-Wright, Houston, Texas; Judy J. Persons-Faulder, Englewood, Colorado; a son, Mark D. Persons and daughter-in-law Cathy L. Shirley-Persons both of West Valley City, Utah. 10 grand-children; Monica L. (Mick) Beach-Wilcox, Travis G. (Corinne) Beach, Michael D. (Jessica) Wright, Jeff D. (Laurie) Wright, Cindy A. Persons-St. Clair, Erin E. Faulder, John M. Persons, Leslie L. (Allan) Faulder-Reed, Brandon B. Faulder, Deanna M. (Alexis) Persons-Aguilar. 8 Great Grand-Children; Megan and Liam Wilcox, Christepher and Alexander Beach, Allison St. Clair, Kylee Ward, Shane Wright and Clark Wright.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Ellen Bader-Zaitz, infant brother, husband, eldest son William Bader Persons, Daughter, Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Persons-Beach, Son-in-law, Gary Glen Beach.

The family would like to sincerely thank the CNA team at Summit Senior Living center and the team from Brighton Hospice for their exceptional care during this difficult period of Mildred's life. Special Thanks to Rocio, Liz, Janna, Debi, Austin and Mikey.
Cremation with Kramer Family Funeral Home, West Valley City, Utah. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mildred was a strong believer in women's rights, equality and civil liberties. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the ACLU of Utah or a charity or your choice.
