Ben was the 2nd husband of Lydia Mae Sallas Houston and the adoptive father of her daughter, Lydia Dianne Houston, whom he raised from the age of two. There were no "steps" in the Redding family and Dianne was always, simply "my daughter." He was a master sergeant and tank commander in the US Army during WWII, serving in Germany and France. He was a surveyor in Stuart until he and Lydia joined the newly-formed SE FL Flood Control District, one of the initial six employees, in West Palm Beach, FL, and where they remained for over 35 years. He was an avid bowler, golfer and pilot, and joined the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, attaining the position of Grand Exalted Ruler of the Lake Worth, FL, Chapter. Ben died of lung cancer.
