Melba was born in Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas, to the late John Spencer Smith and Lora Hammond Smith. She graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1939. She married Melvin G. Carlisle on Feb. 15, 1942.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin G. Carlisle; two brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Carlisle Alford and husband, Michael and grandson, Neil, of Waco; son, Michael Lee Carlisle and wife, Holly and grandsons, Sean and Cody, of Harrisburg, N.C.; and son, Dale Gordon Carlisle and wife, Londa and grandsons, Blake and Lance, of The Woodlands, Texas; sister, Lucy Shelton, of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
