On May 30, 2018, Michiel Lee Carter passed from this world and joined his Lord in Heaven.

Michiel was a lifelong resident of Richmond County. He was the son of the late John Thomas Carter and Mary Elizabeth Baker Carter of Augusta, GA. Michiel was a Christian, a 1984 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools, a proud Marine, and a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan.

In his youth, Michiel will be remembered for his personal achievements in high school football. He played with a warrior’s passion. As an adult, he will be remembered as being an outstanding defensive line coach that helped many athletes achieve success on the gridiron. Michiel enjoyed the outdoors, and especially camping with his son Evan. He liked helping local schools with extracurricular activities that benefitted student achievement, because he was always a proponent of education. Of all the things Michiel enjoyed doing in life, it was his creative involvement with Plantation Blood Haunted Attraction that he enjoyed the most. Michiel spent many tireless hours building a haunt that would scare the public.

Michiel was proceeded in death by his brother Thomas V. Carter (Tammy) of Augusta, GA.

Michiel leaves behind his beloved son, Evan Bryson Carter of Augusta, GA. Survivors also include his two brothers, Mitchell Carter and Jeffery Carter (Theresa), both of Augusta, GA, as well. Other family members include his many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on July 3, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA 30906 with the Rev. Barry Clanton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, his son asks that all donations go to The Fisher House, c/o Augusta Warrior Project, 1190 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909.
