Althea was born in the Town of Easton, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Rev. John Henry and Henrietta (Miller) Nau. She was a graduate of Wausau High School with the class of 1941 and then later graduated from the local beauty school. After moving to Mishicot she was the church secretary at Good Shepherd in Two Rivers, where she made many close friends. After her husband's retirement, they enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona.
