Shorty, 91, died at 7:02 p.m., at the Grande Lake Health Care Center.

He was the son of Ferdinand and Bertha (Wietholter) Ahlers. On Jul 19,1950, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ft. Loramie, he married Edna M. Hilgefort, who survives.

Also surviving are four sons: Larry (Linda), Roswell, GA, Dale Gene (Joni), Celina, and Jeff (Julia) and Rod (Penny) Ahlers, both St. Marys; three sisters: Alberta 'Bert' Loffer, St. Marys, Deloris Rasor, Piqua, Elsie Ahlers, New Bremen; and twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a daughter and two brothers, all linked below; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy (Horn) Ahlers.

A veteran of the United States Navy, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was employed as a driver for St. Marys Trucking Co. for many years. His memberships included Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council # 1592 (3rd degree), Teamster Union Local # 908, American Legion Post #323 and VFW Post # 9289. His favorite pastimes included golfing, spending winters in Florida and polka dancing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry Stechschulte officiating. Burial, with full graveside military rites, will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
