Mrs. Braxton was born in Norfolk and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She also attended Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University. She was a member and deaconess of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and a member of the Rising Sun Chapter, Order of Eastern Star (NU)32; E.L. Harrison Radiant United Order of Tents (NU)767; and Titustown Wives Club. She was a former Cub Scout leader of Troop (NU)73, organizer of the Jolly Teens Youth Group of Titustown and founder of the Jack and Jill Kindergarten. She was active in many other civic organizations.
Survivors include her husband, Aaron L. Braxton Jr.; one daughter, Cecelia T. Jackson of Virginia Beach; one son, Aaron L. Braxton 3rd of Forestville, Md.; her mother, Maggie Pegram of Norfolk; three sisters, Mary H. Walker and Aletha H. Moye, both of Norfolk, and Corneda Harmon of Santa Ana, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, Robert L. Hamlin.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Cook. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A wake will be from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. tonight in Hale Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Thursday.
