Was aboard LST 523 when it hit a German mine and went down off Utah Beach killing 90+ men and wounding many.Dennis was in LST 523 with the 300th Engineers Combat Battalion assisting with D-Day activities when his LST struck a mine. All lives were lost. Dennis' body was never recovered from the water.

There is a marker (pictured) with the names of those lost on display at The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France.

He married Rosa Lee Fitz 27 Aug 1937 in Faulkner County, Arkansas.
