Harry Rose

Harry Rose died December 28, following a short illness.

Harry was born in Jacksonville, FL, one of nine children. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1945-1949. He served on several ships including the U.S.S. Hooper Island, U.S.S. Whetstone, and U.S.S. Navasota. He was part of a large naval contingent, ferrying Japanese prisoners back to Japan following WWII.

Following his enlistment in the Navy, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne in Ft. Bragg, NC. Following his military service, Harry settled in northeast Oklahoma, putting himself through business school at night while driving a city bus during the day. He worked with both Cities Service Company in Bartlesville, OK.
In 1960, Harry campaigned throughout Oklahoma for John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign. Following the election, he was invited to the Kennedy inauguration and post-inauguration events. In 1962, Harry transferred to Atlanta as an accountant for Colonial Pipeline Company. He stayed with Colonial until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement, he started a small consulting company catering to the pipeline industry.

To help pass time in his retirement, Harry signed on with several movie productions as an extra. He said his greatest role was that of a man walking through a doorway.

An avid baseball fan, he coached Little League Baseball for many years in North DeKalb County and later, he loved to watch the Atlanta Braves and Falcons.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, three children and nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
