Born abt May, 1851 in a house on Roach's Row in Redruth, Cornwall. (Her birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1851.) She was the second of four children born to Thomas and Elizabeth Gribble. By 1861 the family was living nearby at Tolgus Place in Redruth and her father had preceded the family to Michigan. By 1870 they were settled at Greenland in Ontonagon County and her father worked in the mines. Elizabeth, then 19, was a servant in the home of farmer William Davey, of Rockland, another Cornishman. A boarder in the Davey home was miner Nicholas Spargo, who had immigrated from Cornwall in the 1850's. Nicholas and Elizabeth were married on 10 Sept. 1870 with her father and William Davey as witnesses.
During the 1870's the couple had a son and a daughter but both died in early childhood. Elizabeth died in 1885, at the age of 34. Nicholas died 26 January 1891, aged 62.
