Dorothy Jeane Axtell, 91, Beaver, Pennsylvania, and Kokomo, Indiana, entered into Heaven at 9:43 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Victor T. Pate and Hazel Bigley Pate. She was born June 8, 1927 in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Dorothy graduated from Rochester High School in 1945, attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and went on to be a milliner, dress designer, and draftswoman in Pittsburgh. She married William E. Axtell in 1951 and continued to work creatively with her hands throughout her life—expertly sewing, knitting, and baking pies and cookies. She attended Beaver United Methodist Church and volunteered for countless non-profit organizations.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn A. Jacobs and Thomas C. (Jennifer) Axtell; grandchildren, Joshua E. (Sarah) Jacobs, William J. Axtell, and Elizabeth A. (James) Hunt; great-granddaughters, Lucy J. Jacobs and Harriet P. Jacobs; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents, her two sisters, her three brothers-in-law, and her son-in-law, the Rev. James E. Jacobs.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, Kokomo.
