Richard L. Bailey concluded life in the evening hours of January 7th, 2019 at 89 years old at Marion General Hospital.
Richard was born March 15th, 1929, in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Melvin Bailey Sr. and Orpha Jane (Harper) Bailey.
Richard worked many years as a union plumber with UA Local 189 Plumbers and Pipefitters, completing various projects in some of the area’s most recognized buildings. After serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict, Richard married his wife Maxine on April 22, 1954. In his life, Richard enjoyed spending time outdoors caring for a consistently impressive vegetable garden. Throughout the year Richard would spend time cooking delicious meals that would be the centerpiece of many Sunday lunches and holiday meals with family.
Richard is survived by his wife of over 60 years Maxine (Beachum) Bailey. He is also survived by his two daughters Becky (David) Marshall of Marion, OH and Terry Bailey of Green Camp, OH; Grandchildren Amanda (Dan) Berry of Marion, OH, Samuel Lee (Rachel) Marshall of Marion OH; Great-Grandchildren Katrina Marshall, Damon Marshall, Zivah Berry, and Zalyah Berry; his brother Howard (Marilyn) Bailey of Green Camp, OH, and his sister Joan Cartmill of Gahanna, OH.Richard is preceded in death by his three brothers, Melvin Bailey Jr., Larry Bailey, and Ellsworth Bailey Sr., and his sister Letha McClead.
We will miss his stories and candor, his cooking and humor. He will forever be loved and remembered.
Friends and family may come to honor Richard’s life on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 12pm to 2pm at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow starting at 2pm at the funeral home with Rev. Josh Freshour officiating. Burial will follow at the Green Camp Cemetery. Donations may be given to the Green Camp United Methodist Church or to a cause of the donor’s choice in Richard’s memory.
