Former Vancouver resident Thomas H. "Harvey" Johnson, 81, died in Longview on Monday, Aug. 3, 1998. He lived in Vancouver from 1942 to 1986.

Mr. Johnson, a truck driver for Arrow Transfer Co. from 1951 to 1979, received an award for driving 1 million miles without an accident.

Born Dec. 17, 1916, in Blue Springs, Ark., he was a welder in the Vancouver shipyards during World War II.

Mr. Johnson liked hunting, fishing and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, at home; one daughter, Lavern Pickett of Vancouver; one stepdaughter, Gloria Meadows of Kennewick; one son, Gerald of Troutdale, Ore.; one stepson, Lonnie Meadows Jr. of Richland; three brothers, Curtis of Redmond, Ore., Robert of Crescent City, Calif., and Clifton of Salyer, Calif.; five sisters, Nellie Simmons of Banks, Ark., Eula Mae Richie of Canadian, Okla., Charlene Pierrat of Caddo, Okla., Gladys Avedian of Traverse City, Mich., and Hester Johnson of Idabel, Okla.; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

A service will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The casket will be open until 9 tonight at the funeral chapel. Columbian, Wednesday, August 5, 1998
