Shirley Hamblin Buck Vajdos of Seguin, Texas | 1924 - 2019 | Obituary
November 14, 1924 - January 13, 2019

Shirley Buck Vajdos, a long time resident of Seguin passed away on Sunday, January 13 at the young age of 94. She was born on November 14, 1924 in St. Johns, Arizona to Ida and Don Carlos Hamblin, the tenth child in a family of eleven children. She spent her early childhood in Farmington, New Mexico and later in Mesa, Arizona. In 1942 she met the "love of her life", Warren "Tory" Buck, a U.S. Army Air Corp Cadet who was stationed in Mesa, Arizona. On October 27, 1942 they were married and shortly thereafter, Tory was sent to Europe to fight in WWII. Shirley then moved to Seguin to live with Tory's parents and await his return from the war. After the war, they moved to College Station, Texas where Tory earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1952. That same year, they moved back to Seguin to open Seguin Veterinary Clinic and raise their family. Shirley spent many years assisting Tory in the clinic, volunteering in school and church activities, as well as managing a household of six children. Shirley will always be remembered for her light hearted, warm spirit, her deep devotion to God, her family and her friends, but most of all for her undying love of her beloved Texas Aggies. Gig 'em! Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, her husband’s Warren Buck, Don Buck and Joe Vajdos, and son Butch and daughter- in- law Carolyn. She leaves behind daughters, Babs Kiel and husband Jeep of Seguin and Debbie Volpe of Seguin; sons, Dee Buck and wife Terry of New Braunfels, Roger Buck and wife Ruth of Austin and Dennis Buck and partner Pedro Andrade of Seguin. Also 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 13 great great-grandchildren. The family would like to sincerely thank the staffs of Seguin Assisted Living and Argent Court of Seguin, Legend Oaks of New Braunfels and Embrace Hospice for their loving care of Shirley for the past several years. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Seguin Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1111 College St., Seguin, with Bishop Brad Drollinger officiating. Interment will follow in the San Geronimo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (macular.org) or to a charity of one’s choice.
