Joe Max Higgins, of Jonesboro, formerly of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Belle Meade Healthcare on his 80th birthday.

He was born July 5, 1937, in Main Shore, Arkansas, to Leonard and Inez Higgins, and was an Army veteran. Max was a former Greene County Sheriff and a self-employed electronic salesman for 60 years. He started the Greene County Boys Club and had three boys win the Golden Gloves at Osceola. Max was a member of the StoneRidge Church of Christ in Jonesboro.

Survivors include his wife Peggy Higgins of Jonesboro; one son Joe Max (Tammy) Higgins, Jr. of Columbus, Mississippi; one daughter Frankie (Mike) Carter of Paragould; one brother Hoyt (Lesta) Higgins of Taylorsville, Kentucky; one sister Hattie (Joe) Emery of Paragould; one step-brother Jerry (Jo Ann) McKinney of Trumann; one half-sister Vicky Prince of Cape Girardeau; and two grandchildren, Hannah Higgins of Columbus, Mississippi, and Alec Carter of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darrell and Jerald Higgins; one sister, Charlene Jones; and one half-sister, Cathy Higgins O'Dell.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 7th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., Friday, until service time at the funeral home.

Members of his high school graduating class will be honorary pallbearers.
