Wellington was the son of John R. Bowdish, Jr. and Emeline Dewey. He married Alexy McColl. Wellington served with Co. B, 7th Michigan Infantry in the Civil War and received a medical discharge Mar. 25, 1863 because of a wound to his foot. Wellington was a farmer.
