Mary Catherine Anthony was born in Sterling, IL and lived there all her life. She was the daughter of Julius P. & Martha J. Anthony, the founders of one of the citys oldest and most prominent families. On May 16, 1877 she married Judge Henry C. Ward in Whiteside county.

They were the parents of seven children, one of whom died in infancy. Her husband and six children survive, three sons and three daughters: John A., Frank A., Philip H., and Miss Mary Helen Ward, all of Sterling, Martha W., wife of H.A. Sowles, Chicago, and Alice M., wife of Dr. A. H. Harms of Knoxville. She was also survived by one brother, Darwin H. Anthony, Los Angeles, CA., two sisters; Mrs. Martha L. Crouse, wife of D.M. Crouse, Salem, Oregon and Miss Permelia Anthony of Sterling. She was the sister of the late Dr. Frank Anthony, surgeon major of the Sixth Illinois Vols in the Spanish War.

The funeral was held Tuesday at the residence on Locust St.
