William H. Byrd was the son of Abraham Byrd and Margaret Bechtel. He served in the Civil War in Company D, 110th Ohio Regiment. The G.A.R. Byrd Post of Spring Valley was named for William who was the first soldier from Spring Valley Township, Green County, Ohio killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Winchester, Virginia, September 1864.
