Prudence was born in Conde, SD on 14 May 1888 to Thomas Arthur and Helen (Bartell) Hersey. She grew up on the farm near Conde with 4 brothers. She met her Husband Roy Edwin Graves in South Dakota, before moving East, to New York. She was the mother of 2 sons and 2 daughters. She passed away after a long illness in a nursing home in Wakita OK on Christmas day 1965.
