Arthur Gale Mitchell, 74, of Ottawa, KS passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. He was born December 28, 1944 in Ottawa, KS, the son of Joseph Holt Mitchell and Mary Allien (Thomas) Mitchell. Arthur was a lifelong Ottawa resident.

Arthur worked during his life for Willis Nursery, ECKAN Weatherization, Haven Steel, and lastly IFCO pallet systems as a forklift operator until his retirement on 2001.

Arthur was a lover of the outdoors. When he was young he was and avid hunter. He especially enjoyed running his coon dogs on a hunt. He enjoyed walking through the woods for morel mushrooms as well. In his later years camping and fishing became his favorite pastime. He enjoyed a quiet day out in nature with a fishing pole and his camper.

In December of 1964 Arthur married Pam Burgoon. They later divorced. Later in life Arthur became a companion to Judy Johnson. They remained close until her death in 2014.

Arthur is survived by a daughter, Mellisa Oshel and her husband, Gary, Ottawa; Dustin Mitchell and his wife, Paula, Ottawa; sister, Cleta Mae Finch, Ottawa; brother, Willard Dale Mitchell, Burlington, KS; step-daughter Katie Maxwell and her husband Mark, Tonganoxie, KS; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty –three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Margie Johnston, Melba Tull, Eugene Mitchell, Gaylene Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2019 at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Ottawa. Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday January 27, 2019 at the funeral home.
