David C. Schnur, 76, of Kiel, passed away at home instantly from a heart attack on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

He was born June 19, 1942 in Sheboygan, son of the late Willard C. and Antonia C. (Lulloff) Schnur.David attended SS Peter & Paul Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Kiel High School in 1961. He was a self-made man who loved his family and could always be counted on when anyone needed help.

On April 20, 1963, he married Mary Ann Freis. David worked at Lake to Lake from ages 16 to 18 while attending high school. Then, he worked at the Kohler Foundry from 1966 until 1971.David's dream came true in 1971when he went from renting a bar to owning Schnur’s Bar. It was Schnur’s until 1983, then Schnur’s Again from 1998-2003, after which he continued as owner. He also drove school bus for 49 years providing safe transportation for three generations of students. David looked forward to all high school sporting events he watched after driving students to games. He enjoyed playing in Sheepshead Tournaments where he assisted as local captain organizing the state tournament around the area. David was especially proud to be a Green Bay Packer season ticket holder for 33 years and was lucky enough to attend the Ice Bowl.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann, daughter Paula Schnur, San Jose, CA, son Jeff Schnur, Kiel, “my other daughter,” Marla Degner, Palo Alto, CA, sisters Susan (Dr. Steven) Bergin and Kaye (Peter) Erdman, brothers Michael Schnur and Peter Schnur; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Barbara (Prince) Lawsha, Kathryn Gahl, Bill Freis (Judy Wolf), Jon Freis, Tom (Janis) Freis, and Lisa (Keith) Vanden Avond; aunts Monica Manz and Alyce Lulloff; nieces and nephews Dr. Ashlee (Corey Shapiro) Bergin, Seth Bergin, Ethan Bergin (Sara Ritchie), Patrick Erdman (Lindsey Mueller), Sarah (Mike) Rublee, Jenny, Tony, and Aaron Schnur, Nora Zylstra, Owen Zylstra (Mary Cavanaugh), Aaron (Dr. Kate) Freis, Adam, Libby, Stephanie, and Emily Freis, Ben Vanden Avond, Joe Vanden Avond, and Katie (Kory) Guns. David is further survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends too numerous to mention.

David was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Wally and Helen Freis, sister-in-law Lori Freis, numerous aunts and uncles, plus a great-nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, January 28, 2019 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church (413 Fremont St., Kiel) with Fr. Carl Diederichs officiating and Joe Zenk Parish Director assisting. Cremation will follow the service with burial taking place at a later date at Belitz Cemetery in Kiel.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St., Kiel) on Sunday, January 24, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Starting at 4:30pm, there will be a Celebration of Life at Alice's Stress Management. Everyone is invited to share their favorite David stories or just join in a toast to his welcoming spirit.

Visitation will continue Monday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church from 10:30 am until 11:45 am when brief family rites will be held. Lunch will follow in the church basement.
