George was the son of John George Pitcher, a carpenter, and his wife Alice Feathers. George spent his youth in Rochester, NY before moving west to Somerset to work on a farm. George suffered from mental illness and was eventually admitted to the Buffalo State Hospital in January of 1905. George would spend the remainder of his life as an inmate of the hospital, dying there in 1930.
