Sarah was one of eleven children born to William Foster and Rebecca Miranda Ballard. Her first marriage was to B A Hodges, 26 Feb 1874 in Van Zandt County. They can be found in the 1880 census of that county with no children. She married Solomon Young Carter on New Year's Day 1883. Solomon had children by a previous marriage and together they had Daniel Boone Carter, 25 Nov 1886. The 1900 census for Van Zandt County shows Sarah as mother to 3 children with one living. Sarah is buried in Belvieu Cemetery, Fisher County, Texas
