T. Sgt. Bobby Franklin McCoy, 37, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., died late Wednesday afternoon at Athens, Ala., death being due to a heart attack. he was enroute to Traverse City, Mich., taking his three minor children home following their vacation with him.
Sgt. McCoy was born Jan. 30, 1933 in Statesville, son of Clarence W. and Pearlie Pope McCoy, route 7, Statesville. He was a member of Pressly Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and had served almost 20 years in the Air Force, including two tours in Vietnam.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one daughter, Jennifer; two sons, Leslie D. and Douglas F, all of Traverse City, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Martin Luther Sigmon, route 1, Statesville; two brothers, Clarence W. McCoy, Jr., route 3, Statesville and Jerry E. McCoy of Statesville.
Funeral services for Sgt. McCoy will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pressly Memorial ARP Church, conducted by Rev. R. Marshall Wilson and Rev. Paul Conrad. Interment will follow in Iredell Memorial Park with full military honors offered by Pope Air Force personnel.
The body will remain at Nicholson Funeral Home and will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 7 and 9 o'clock.
